In der Krabbelgruppe haben wir in diesem Jahr ein Weihnachtsbilderbuch gebastelt, das die Weihnachtsgeschichte in einfachen Bildern erzählt. Ilona ist eine studierte Künstlerin und hat sich wirklich etwas Tolles ausgedacht. Bei ihr sieht alles immer so leicht aus - ich kämpfe oft mit den Gesichtern, es ist gar nicht so einfach, den Figuren dadurch Leben einzuhauchen. In manchen Bildern ist mir das besser gelungen als in anderen.

This picture book telling the Christmas story in simple pictures is what we made at our playgroup this Christmas season. Ilona is a studied artist and always comes up with great ideas.

Heute haben wir unsere gespendeten Dinge wieder aus dem Kindergarten mitgenommen. Und ich habe nur 4 Büxn verkauft. Schade, ich hätte es dem Kindergarten gegönnt und so frage ich mich nun woran die Kaufunlust lag: Ist es die Form? Ist es die Verzierung? Wissen die Leute nicht, wozu sie solch eine Büx unbedingt benötigen? War der Preis mit 4 Euro zu hoch? Sagt ihrs mir!
Erstaunlicherweise hab ich KEINE der mit Zackenlitze verzierten Büxn verkauft, dafür sind alle Perlenbestickten weg. Ich werde jetzt wohl mal bei DaWanda mein Glück versuchen oder möchte hier noch jemand? Wie bereits geschrieben hatte ich an 4 Euro (+ 1,50 Euro Versand) pro Büx gedacht, wenn also Interesse besteht, dann mailt mir.

Today we got the things back that we made for the Christmas market at kindergarten. And they only sold four Büxn, that is not much. It is a pity, I wanted that the institution would earn some money with them. I am wondering what the reasons for their unpopularities were: The form? The way they were embellished? Don’t the people know what they need the Büxn for? Was the prize (4 Euros) too high? Tell me!
Interestingly none of the zigzag-Büxn were sold, but all of the flowered. I will put them into DaWanda or do you want one? As I wrote above I thought of 4 Euro (+ 1,50 Euro shipping) per Büx, so if you are interested, please mail me.

Eine Gans soll vor Weihnachten noch auf die Reise gehen, sicherlich wird sie vorher nicht mehr ankommen, aber dieses Ziel habe ich mir gesteckt. Alle anderen Gänse sind bereits auf dem Weg oder sogar schon angekommen. Ich hätte nicht gedacht, dass ich neben dem Alltagschaos, den Geburtstags- und Weihnachtsvorbereitungen noch 4 Gänse fertigstellen und verschicken kann. Eine gans_toll fehlt noch und dann ist Weihnachtspause - drei Gänse müssen noch fertiggestellt werden und zwei sind bereits vorgemerkt, aber erst nach einer kleinen Erholungspause. Danach werde ich mich an ein neues Projekt wagen, aber mehr wird noch nicht verraten.

Only one goose is left to be shipped before Christmas, it will not make it in time but this is my personal goal. All of the others have been shipped already and presumably reached their destinations. I would not have thought that I was able to finish four gans_toll next to the daily chaos, the birthday and the christmas preparations. As I said before, one gans_toll is still missing and then it is Christmas Break - three geese are already waiting to be finished in January and two have been on the waiting list, but I need a rest first. After that, I will tackle a new project, but I will not tell yet.

Morgen soll nun Geburtstag sein. Heute habe ich ein einfaches Shirt mit der gelben Geburtstagstorte von farbenmix verziert. Das geht ja total einfach und sieht genial aus! Da werd ich wohl demnächst noch mehr kaufen und hab dann schnell ein selbstgemachtes Geschenk. Ich denke da an eine 1 für den Sohn einer Freundin …

Tomorrow is Linus third birthday. And today I pimped a simple shirt with this velour cake by farbenmix. It is so easy to make and looks great! I will pobably get more motives to have fast handmade presents at hand when needed. Right now I am thinking of getting a 1 for a friends’ son …

Ihr lieben geduldigen Gänsekäuferinnen. Vielen herzlichen Dank, dass ihr so große Geduld mit mir habt. Es geht voran - alle Gänse sind genäht. Jetzt müssen sie nur noch gewendet, gestopft und zugenäht werden, ich freu mich schon auf heute abend. Es kann also nicht mehr lange dauern - denn all diese Tätigkeiten kann ich auch mit Kind am Busen. Allerdings geht es Joshua wieder viel besser, nur die Anhänglichkeit ist geblieben. Aber das ist nichts Neues, dieses Kind lebt quasi seit seiner Geburt in Symbiose mit mir.

You patient geese-buyers out there. Thank you very much for your patience. As I already wrote, slowly but steadily I’m getting there. All geese have been sewn. They have to be turned to the right side now, stuffed and closed, I am already looking forward to tonight. It can’t be long now - since all of these activities can be done with the baby on me. Actually, Joshua is doing much better, just the adherence stayed. But that’s nothing new, this baby has been living in symbiosis with me since birth.

In einer Woche hat mein großer Sohn Geburtstag, er wird drei Jahre alt. Ich hatte mir überlegt, ob wir überhaupt feiern sollten und mich nun dafür entschieden. Drei Kinder haben wir eingeladen, die Mütter und Geschwister kommen mit, wir werden vielleicht etwas (die Windlichter) basteln oder aber die Kinder spielen lassen - je nach Lust und Laune.

Diese Einladungen haben wir gebastelt. Ich habe die Weihnachtsschablonen von Jako-o und daraus Linus Lieblingsmotiv ausgesucht: die Lokomotive. Letzte Woche haben wir an einem Nachmittag gemalt - mit Pinsel und Fingerfarben, die sich allerdings nicht eignen, da die Farben total verblassen. Gestern haben wir nun die Lokomotiven aus dem bunt bemalten Papier ausgeschnitten und auf Karten aufgeklebt. Noch schnell aus gelbem Papier ein edles Wölkchen ausgeschnitten und die Einladung von Hand geschrieben. Fertig.

Only one week left and my eldest turns three. I wondered whether we should have a birthday party or not but then I decided to go for it. We invited three kids plus moms and siblings. We might do the wind lights or let the kids just play - I’ll take it easy and see what we and especially the kids are up to.

We made these invitations. I have got these Christmas patterns from Jako-o and chose Linus favorite: the train. One afternoon last week we painted with brush and finger colors. They are not the best choice painting on paper since they turn pale really quick. Yesterday we then cut out the trains and glued them on orange cards. Quickly cut out beautiful paper clouds and wrote the invitations by hand. Done!

Solche schönen Säckchen habe ich schon auf einigen Internetseiten bewundert. Ich finde sie irgendwie nett, gerade in der Weihnachtszeit. Ich würde sie als Deko auf den Tisch stellen, gefüllt mit Nüssen, Äpfeln, Mandarinen. Oder auch mit Tannenzapfen, farblich passenden Christbaumkugeln? Mir fallen viele Verwendungsmöglichkeiten ein.

Darum habe ich mich am Sonntagabend hingesetzt und selber eins aus Weihnachtsstoffen genäht. Es geht total einfach, der innere Sack ist im Durchmesser geringfügig kleiner. Ich hab etwa 2 Stunden inklusive Zuschneiden und Denken gebraucht. Ist also für jedermann schaffbar. Innen hab ich mich mit meinem Label verewigt. In diesem Fall aus zwei Gründen: es ist ein Wichtelgeschenk und dient nicht nur als Signatur, sondern auch als Hinweis.

I have seen these nice sacks all over the internet. I think they are lovely especially in winter time. Filled with nuts, tangerines and apples they make nice deco on the table. Or fill them with cones (smelling like a winter forest) or glass tree ornaments in matching colors? I can think of few more applications.

That is why I sat down on Sunday night and sew one with christmassy fabrics. It is fairly easy, the diameter of the inner sack is slightly smaller. Altogether (thinking, cutting the fabric, sewing and ironing) it took me about two hours from scratch to finished product. So everyone can do it. Inside I put my label. This time for two reasons: it is a secret Santa present and doesn’t only work as signature but also as clue.

Slowly but steadily things are coming along.

Sitting there, working on my projects, the house all quiet with both boys sleeping at the same time, I was thinking. And suddenly realised that I had been thinking in English for the last couple of minutes. I probably know why I had turned back to English, but nevertheless it got me some more thinking and remembering. I wondered whether all people who speak more than one language fluently have this experience. And whether they also notice these switches so obviously as I do.

Things started way back when I was a teenager in High School and I had this crazy idea about spending a year abroad. And I did. I went to the USA, specifically to upstate New York and spent ten wonderful months with my new family. I went back for my sisters graduation, did some travelling around. The day I wanted to spent at Disney World in California was also the day that the twin towers fell. Am I ever coming back? I don’t really know, I know for sure that it will not be as soon as I had expected because my husband and I have decided not to move there next fall.

What was I trying to tell you? Yes, the switches. I remember watching TV before school started that summer I spent in NY. One afternoon I became aware that I really understood what these people on TV were saying. I was so proud … and then there were two other occasions. When I heard myself thinking in English and the morning I got up and knew that I had been dreaming in English for the first time.

I love this language. I don’t know why and it sounds strange but I really truly do. The reason why I have been thinking in English this afternoon is easily explained: I have been reading English Blogs on a daily basis for the last month and then yesterday my husband sent me this link to Randy Pausch’s Last Lecture at Carnegie Mellon. I sat there and watched for 1,5 hours and was thoroughly impressed by this man and by what he said. Maybe you can spare some time to watch the video - there is also one available with German subtitles. The time you spent is really worth it!

Ich habe die Konsequenz aus den vergangenen Tagen gezogen: Mein Shop bei DaWanda ist seit heute vorübergehend geschlossen. Ich habe 9 Aufträge für Gänse, ein krankes, anhängliches Baby, einen Haushalt, eine Familie und ein Leben - die Gans wird zum Frustobjekt und das soll sie nicht sein. Meine Aufträge werde ich natürlich beenden, sicherlich etwas verspätet verschicken, allerdings bin ich bereits mit den Käufern in Kontakt getreten, schließlich sollen die Gänse rechtzeitig zu den benötigten Terminen eintreffen.
