This is a funny story. And since it happened in English, it is also just going to be written in English. (Sorry, Mom.)
When I found out about this whole craft blogging community all around the world (I am still impressed) about four months ago, I did not restrain myself to German blogs only. I went and read globally as you can find out when following my link list. One woman wrote about hubby. I just read it there and started to wonder what name this was short for. Hubert, maybe?
Then I read hubby in another blog. What, I thought, strange coincidence. Another Hubert. The explanation for this was found easily - the women probably similar age had husbands with similar age too and strange name Hubert must have been quite popular then.
Strangely the hubby thing did not limit itself to two blogs, more and more women had hubbys and suddenly it dawned on me. I felt so stupid. It took me almost a month to find out that hubby wasn’t short for a specific name, it was short for husband.
You just read one of those stories that only happen to me.
On a side note: These little guys up there represent our family, hubby is the guy with the red hat. I am the big blue girl - what does that say about us? (Big L is the green one, little j the yellow guy.)

Danke für den Lacher am Abend! Das hätte mir auch passieren können.
LG
Chris

Big Smile! Very funny, it made me laugh out loud. Don’t we all ‘make’ little faux-pas like that! What is the German word equivalent for hubby?
In terms of the red hat and blue hat - does this poem fit the description? It is my youngest son’s favorite: (by Judith Viorst)
Short Love Poem
It’s hard to love
The tallest girl
When you’re the shortest guy,
For every time
You try to look
Your true love in the eye
You see
Her bellybutton.
BTW - I love those little guys. Are they from a particular game or toy?

What a hilarious “hubby” story! I’m sure I’ve had moments like that as well, but that’s ok since English isn’t our native language, right?!
Your family looks lovely by the way and HAPPY belated birthday!!
